Hi guys, this is my first forum post.
I got a question that troubles me.
I'm an intermediate player, at least in blitz (which is my weakest spot). Occasionally, I can play solid chess, with no blunders, and score higher than my range on Lichess (1500-1600, right now). At times, I blunder a lot, or make moves that I've never intended to, and score less (I'd say in the 1200-1300 range).
Thus, I understand that my rating is the average of all these, and it is correct.
Now, whenever I play on chess.com, I can hardly beat the 1200s. Eventually, with lots of effort and focus, I can reach 1300, before I'm tilted and give it all back. Why is that? Am I the only one experiencing this? Another odd thing is that my performance is much better in 3 min (a time control I'm not willing to play) games, my opponents, even if I lose, behave more realistically, hanging pieces, missing a mate, etc.
Is chess com so much stronger, are they cheating in 5 min blitz games, or am I a total lunatic?
Must be said that my rating in Rapid is better. I can play anyone 1700-1800 decently, so I think I can recognize certain skills and assess skills relative to ratings.
I have decided to play only on Lichess.
Thank you in advance if you got a tip.
Dave

Do you know that because of differences in the way ratings are computed on the two sites, lichess ratings are generally around 300 points higher than chess.com? So if you're 1600 here you might be 1300 or so there.
I'm running around 1500 blitz/1680 rapid here, but only around 1100 on the other site. Not everyone has the same difference between the sites but this seems to be pretty typical.
As for cheating...who knows. Based on the number of accounts that I've played that have been flagged, it looks like there is a similar amount at both sites. Maybe a bit more at chess.com.

The FAQ section (before the last section) explains it perfectly: https://lichess.org/page/rating-systems
Different rating systems, different outcomes.

I understand and agree. Rapid is different. Two years ago, before I had to take a break from chess, I was 1660 in Rapid on Chess.com. I'm sure that I could play in the 1500-1600 range in Rapid with no problems. My question was related to blitz, seeing that 1200s in 5 mins games blunder less and less (I'd expect that from 1600). Thanks for answering.

I don't have an explanation for that and haven't really noticed it in my games over there. As I said, my current blitz and rapid ratings on chess.com are almost identical (1103, 1085). Maybe the player pool has changed a lot in those 2 years? Covid and all.
There is a website somewhere where they compared ratings across different categories. I think on chess.com the average players blitz rating was about 150 pts lower than their rapid rating.

Thanks a lot, it must have been me having a hard time over there :-) That's reassuring to hear
