Chess performance and I.Q.

I am about 1700, 1450 OTB, with an IQ of 150+.
I think OP's system is not good.

Off course it's not good for the very simple reason:
There is NO correlation between intelligence and chess.
This Nonsense is made into a topic countless times, over and over, obviously with zero intent of discussion. It's more about... "My rating is higher, I'm smarter than you"

Years ago, remember the Late night talk hows? Jay Leno and David Letterman. Letterman's "humor" was labeled as appealing to the intellectual. Leno's to the "common man." Letterman's audience claimed to be smarter ! (Letterman occasionally plays chess!) They understood sophisticated jokes, while the Leno audience would laugh at anything.
Anyways, the writers for both shows took IQ tests. The results proved absolutely nothing, except for the fact that people who went to bed before 11:30pm and never watched the shows had a 30 point higher IQ.
Researchers dismissed this point as irrelevant to the study.

@savagechess2k How so? According to both formulas, a 1700 lichess Rating corresponds to an I.Q. of 107, while a 1450 FIDE Rating corresponds to an I.Q. of 105.

Since this in no way resembles an I.Q. of 150+, either I wrote both formulas incorrectly (very possible), or your result was on a actual I.Q. test.
In that is the case, then please bear in mind that ordinary I.Q. tests are no adequate psychometric instruments to discriminate between highly intelligent/mentally deficient persons, being only reliable within the -+2 SD range. Thus, any result past 130 is means 130+ and nothing else.
However, if your result comes from a score in a "tough enough" test, then that's awesome and I'd like to know what test you took.

Note that the lichess formula is a mere z-score equating translation, i.e., it simply answer the question "on lichess, a 2200 player rests above 98% of players. What level of I.Q. outclasses 98% of the population?", where the answer is "around 130 or 131".

@Acoffe
There must be exceptions.
It was a real IQ test.

Wait, you're assuming that IQ and chess ratings are correlated because both are normally distributed?

@Assios No, god no!
I'm assuming that they are positively correlated because g (the general intelligence factor) positively correlates with virtually every mental activity and highly correlates with working memory, processing speed and pattern recognition, which are all factors involving chess aptitude. Of course, I.Q. is also highly g-loaded.

In short, since (don't have any data for this, but I doubt that anyone will dispute it) working memory, processing speed and pattern recognition are all very important ingredients regarding chess ability, and all highly correlate with I.Q., then chess ability positively correlates with I.Q..

Don't forget the mustard on the baloney sandwich.

Chess players will naturally do better in IQ tests than most because chess practices visual pattern recognition and the IQ tests I have seen have A LOT of visual pattern recognition in them.

That doesn't mean anything. Intelligence has different areas, everybody is great at some area.

The IQ, how they count it and how people base their ego and pride on it is really hilarious.

I know two guys who are in the Mensa, 1 is arrogant and thinks he's a genius for doing it, the other says that if you are skilled in visual pattern recognition you can get in.

Out of these two guys I think only the humble one is intelligent.
