Chess Notation Helper

Hi all, I created a Chess Notation Helper extension for Chrome.

I realized that after playing chess online for 2 years I was still having trouble memorizing chess notation, I couldn't really follow analysts or GMs talking about chess in notation, and I also realized that if I went to a tournament it might be a slight issue writing down my moves.

So I decided to create this simple tool/extensions which highlights chess squares on the board based on notation input, it shows the SAN (e.g. Nf3, exd5, O-O) on the square you landed for 2 seconds, then fades out, providing instant visual feedback for the move, without being too intrusive to the overall gameplay.

At first I only used it locally, but I decided why not publish and share it with others, maybe it helps others who are having similar issues keeping up with chess notation, like I was. It's completely free ofc.

Here's a Chrome Web Store link: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/chess-notation-helper/jikbapnldlagjeghbghipabcimjmmekg

Here's a short video showing it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WBv_1U-Qxc

And it's pending approval for Firefox addons.

Any and all feedback is welcomed!

This is definitely less boring than the existing coordinates exercise.

The light square seems to be a bit obtrusive, I've removed it and put the text to the bottom left corner. (Something like: {align-items: flex-end !important; justify-content: left !important; color: #6a6 !important; text-shadow: 1px 1px 3px #000, 0 0 1em #000, 0 0 0.5em #000 !important;} - for the green board style.)

Basically, it's a good tool, I like it. Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback!

I did actually start out with something like that, but then I figured well it's kinda the point to have notation 'in your face' for a second or two :D, so I went with full square.

Will definitely rethink it tho!
