@petri999 Alpha-beta is still subject to horizon effects. That's a problem with any search tree on an NP-complete problem. Perhaps I should have clarified this point, but it is indeed why engines miss the solution to a problem that Tal was able to solve while taking a stroll after seeing it on the board. A pure minmax approach would find it, but at the cost of also analyzing orders of magnitude more inferior lines.
