Observing my games in rapid and classical, I think that my rapid games are better quality than my classical games, by a light year. I don't get what is the problem, even though I have sufficient time to think in both, infact, my classical games should be higher due to having more time to think. I play both time controls 10+0 rapid and 20+10 classical in about the same conditions, yet I am able to perform better in rapid, you can see the difference in rating. It's also not that my opponents are better in classical, no, they are generally either on par with me or worse. Could someone explain the huge difference in my performance? it could very well be psychological , as I am on a big losing streak in classical.

It can be that you are good at tricks and swindles in your rapid games. That do not work as well when your opponent have more time. You have to play more solid variations with more reflektion time. And you have to think a level deeper.

A pattern that I consistently see with myself and peers is endurance in longer time controls. Especially if you're playing with standard tournament controls (1:30:00+30, or other variations used in different tournaments). It's essentially psychological torture to sit there and just think and calculate moves. It's like taking the SAT/ACT in the US (if you live in a country other than the US, think about a very heavy standardized test).
When time controls become that long, your brain can and will become tired at some point. Your endurance might not be as great as other players, which could be a reason why you're losing. The same thing happened to me in state back in April, where I played a played a player who I have beaten numerous times in blitz (around 1500 ish on the other chess website), and lost horribly, despite having about 85% accuracy according to the computer. The way to fix this? Consistently play longer time controls. For example, instead of playing 10 min, try going to 12 min, then 15 min, then 18 min, and so on. Go until you're happy with your performance in longer time controls. Good luck with the chess grind
