Can I ‘cheat’ against a bot in an unrated game?

Hello, I’m trying to practice some openings against the Maia5 bot by looking at the suggested engine/opening book moves. But my game got ended because of cheating. Is this not allowed?
Thanks

It is not allowed, see https://lichess.org/page/fair-play for completeness.

If you want to practice lines with the engine activated you can use lichess.org/study or in alternative play versus the computer. You can also edit the board here: lichess.org/editor.

What possible gratification would you get from cheating anyway? If you want to smash a bot, just set it to a comparatively weak setting and smash away.

I suppose it is to learn an opening. I usually play from position. Set a position and then copy the fen and challenge the bot

Wow I would have tripped over this trap as well, as I currently use the chessdotcom bots where anything goes as the games are unrated. Was actually thinking of using the bots here, but not now.

As to why anyone would use the bots in this why the chief reason is that bots play to a 'normal' opening book, whereas much of the low-level player gameplay is aimed at bypassing 'normal' in favour of flagging. You just get sick of it after a while. I'd rather at least increase my chances of learning something by playing a bot. Obviously not now.

Maybe you didn’t read the post, I’m working on openings and it’s helpful to see what moves I should play and make them than play who whole game and go back afterwards.
