Prof. Sir Alan Fersht is of the opinion that Nathaniel Cook(e) based his knight head design on the horses heads in the Elgin marbles. Anyone designing a chess set in the 'Staunton' manner would benefit from tracing the link to these claims.
There is also an intriguing similarity between some other chess set types (Regence for example) and finials on classical furniture. I hope someday to be able to establish a link.

Logo looks terrible. Doesn't really give form to how a horse really is. It looks too round.
