Asking for advice on chess set color

buy the ones made from mammoth ivory for 10000$! even if your father hates them, he wont dare to complain! :D
honestly i think color shouldnt be too big of a problem if you have figurines tall enough - or if your blindfold skills are good enough.

in an ideal world you have good contrast (e.g. white/black pieces and brown/cream board). can you tell us more about the board?
e.g. in the picture you showed you have a very bright light square color, pretty light brown for the dark squares too. it gives pretty good contrast with those white=brown pieces. if your dads board looks similar i dont see a problem, but if the squares are much darker maybe clean white pieces do the trick a little better and should also be easy to obtain, beech wood is cheap.

@wedekind_87 Where did your dad get his board from? I'm looking for a board that's around 55-60mm square size but the biggest I can find is 50cm

suppose you meant mm? his are 6x6 cm not 60x60 cm

My father got the board a lot of years ago, and it is actually part of a small table, so I can't bring it to the shop, which by the way is hundreds of km from the city we live in (not to mention that my father would realize I am taking that table away from his room).
I was not going to buy at house of staunton. I was going to buy in an italian shop, but I thought about it and I told myself: "why am I not buying from house of staunton? they ship worldwide".

So I'm going to have more choice and I'm going to find the perfect set. That matching didn't satisfy me. It's gonna cost money, so it has to be perfect.

Thank you to everybody.

you might also wanna check out etsy (israels ebay or smth). 3 israeli shekel ~1USD
they have alot of large pieces and prices seem a bit better than staunton when it comes to the big, fancy stuff.

to check out exact piece sizes just click on the button under description on the right side (smth like "get to know more", for me it was german and i didnt find a language switch). they often have a toggle for "only pieces" vs "board+pieces" so dont shy away from checking out sets if you like their look.

their filters are slightly lacking, but i got all large pieces when i googled for that and when i just included "large" in the site search. just keep in mind that the user reviews are for shops and not items. the site seemed to have a bigger selection, higher quality pieces and cheaper prices than US ebay all in all and you actually got LARGE pieces when you searched for them. ebay was a complete disaster when it came to size and materials their filters and search results were useless.
