Asked This on Reddit, Any Way to Know Average Time of a Match based on Time Control?

I have an upcoming tourney, the National Open in Las Vegas, in June. Time control is 40/90, SD/30 + 30 second increment. Is there any way to figure out the average time each match will be? I assume the average match would be about 40 moves. So that would be an added 20 minutes to each person's 90 minutes for an hour 50 minutes to make 40 moves. Let's just say you use all of that time. Does that seem reasonable? So the match should be 3 hours 40 minutes long? I'm asking because I like to go to casinos and am wondering how much time in between rounds I will have, since a Thursday night blitz tourney is available to play which I would do if I have time in between matches.

I think you're setting yourself up for a bad tournament if you're thinking about how long your game will take so you can go gambling :)
Sounds exciting though, have fun!

Take a bye each day. :) The games will go a very long time and should go a long time. I like to take a last round bye at most of the tournaments I play in so I can go see the city.

Play the first 30 moves well in every game and time won't be a problem.

Get yourself loaded with coke, then hit those hoes. Vegas is for anything but chess.

Tournaments have a set time that each round starts and usually they always run late. They can't start a round early without warning, so you will know when you have to return.

BTW, you forget to add in the second time control. So add another hour plus the 30 second increment.

If you like to go to casinos, chess time is the least of your problems.

To me it is incredible that any adult would willingly trow away their money on rigged games. You play "free to play" games with RNG also i assume.

Also no need to spend money on whores unless you are incredibly ugly, no hygiene, disabled etc. that would make it harder.

That being said, have fun on that tournament, and just approach some girls and have fun with your friends.
