Any particular reason why lichess rating is sooomuch higher/differnt from FIDE??

...just thought I should ask :) ...Lots of 'Chess players' on the platform, some are trying to play chess using theory and tactics like the masters... Is it a proprietary thing, like lichess isn't allowed to grade us using the FIDE fromula?

@kaissa44 @Rijubps111 ...so at the end there it says that the other system is old and lichess is following a more relevant system, and yet once you've reached a lichess rating of 2000 you're not even close to the masters levels. I would've thought that a system that shows where you stand against the "masters" would be the more significant one

@Kingscoffee This is because experts and masters play OTB, with the ELO rating system. If Glicko 2 was the dominant rating system, it would be much easier to see where you stand. Unfortunately, not all wesbites and clubs have made the switch.

that's my comparaison between lichess (blitz) & fide rating:

  • 800F = 1100
  • 1000F = 1300
  • 1200F = 1600
  • 1400F = 1800
  • 1600F = 2100
  • 1800F = 2300
  • 2000F = 2400
  • 2200F = 2500
  • 2400F = 2600
  • 2600F = 2800
  • 2800F = 3000
that's my comparaison between lichess (blitz) & fide rating: - 800F = 1100 - 1000F = 1300 - 1200F = 1600 - 1400F = 1800 - 1600F = 2100 - 1800F = 2300 - 2000F = 2400 - 2200F = 2500 - 2400F = 2600 - 2600F = 2800 - 2800F = 3000

More or Less correct at #7.
There are many more player contributing to the rating pool on a platform like Lichess, therefore there are lots more players to "give" rating points to the better players, so ratings inflate. At least that is my summary understanding. I have a welsh chess union rating of 1679 which is basically equivalent to a Fide rating, and you can see my rating on here which is perhaps a little under what it could be since I don't play many random games at slower time controls and fast controls are my weaker area.
I have a friend who is about the same strength as me and has 2k-2100 on Lichess though. I would perhaps bump the gain down by a hundred from 2k fide to 1.4k fide.
