Also, I see that your opening loses a pawn and I think you should switch to a more preferable opening rather than this.

That's the "Smith-Morra" it's a legit opening. In terms of gambits it's about as sound as it gets.

Lol - that's the hard part. I feel like some people are born with this discipline, and they become titled players (assuming they start early enough), but as an adult, it's very hard to implement this discipline on every single move.

We just reduce this tactics blunder by develope the feel of danger zone. Training with tactics theme. : weak king position (can check, backrank), loose pieces (en prise, no protected), pieces under attack, pieces overload, pieces limit mobility, pieces on the same weak diagonal ( for Pin, Skew)....
