recent progress in rapid

@MrPushwood most moves are winning at this point, and a5 is a good move. but we should really talk about how White fell into a very bad bishop vs good knight situation without realizing what that even is. and Black missed the chance to fully capitalize on the positional control with 21. ...Rc5 or Rc3. Big picture strategy is easy to learn and more significant than a faster win in a pawn up king and pawn ending.

@morphyms1817 I'm glad you took the step of doing some research! At the simplest level, since bishops have long range and operate on one color, they are heavily impacted by pawn chains -- lines of pawns on one color. Knights on the other hand can jump over pawns and pieces, so operate well posted on a single advanced square, usually a 'hole' which is a square that cannot be attacked by another pawn. In your game, you traded off all the other pieces except your bad bishop. we call it bad because it has very few moves since your pawns are all locked in place on the same color. In contrast your opponent kept his knight which would be able to make great use of dark squares like f4 to attack pawns on d3 and h3. In this type of game, White has relatively little counterplay. Once you are aware of how your pawns and pieces interact on a broad level, you can avoid falling into these types of positions. However your opponent luckily slipped up by giving you the c file and trading pieces a pawn down. Understanding why your position was bad before that will help you level up your game though.

hope this helps
