Hi,
I finished a game with a Pat. I don't understand why is not a check mzt. Could you please explain so I avoid it next time.
Then I started the analysis and played again the computer. I finally found a combination of move that finish by a check mate.
Cheers

@St7ven Your last move was Qg6. It's then your opponent's turn to move, but they had no legal move so it's called a stalemate. The game can't end normally because your opponent can't move.
Please don't call people a "Pat"

Just to clarify, the difference between stalemate and checkmate is whether the opponent is in check or not.
If they're not in check, but any move puts them in check, then that's stalemate, which is a draw.
If they are in check, and any move keeps them in check, that's checkmate, which is a win.
In this example, once the queen was on g5, the white king can only shuffle between h7 and h8, so you should bring your king to f7, then checkmate by putting the queen on g7.

@IAmMateCheckMate Sir/Madam thank you so much I had no idea. I responded thinking that "Pat" was shorthand for "Patzer" which is a disparaging word for a chess beginner. Did you know that as well? Which meaning did the OP have in mind?
