I made so many painful moves to sacrifice pieces to stay alive, to have a sliver of a chance to win. Then at the end they hang their queen and I can win but I mouse slip my rook and it stops one square in front of their queen.

Yeah, It's a tough game
your opponent deserved to win so he won simple!
Mouse slips happen to the best of all of us, when I used to be a 1200 my opponent (1900) mouse slipped their queen in front of my pawn and resigned.
