You can't challenge an anonymous player because he is singed out and he does not have a lichess profile.

Don't answer a forum if you can't understand a basic question. challenge doesn't mean sign out. and if OP and other posters say it's possible and they've seen it then it's most likely true that you are incorrect

OP, make a challenge using "play with a friend", select CASUAL, and give him/her link. He or she can now click on the link and join.
