Thats fine, my thinking was "oh no not again"

Who knows, maybe I was wrong to assume the worst, but his English sounded pretty good to me ?!

I have learned its usually best to avoid that kind of request

That said there are some who just come out with some awful stuff straight away

Have to block and report in those cases

I don't believe I am not " toughened up" to some degree

But I also don't believe just letting it go accomplishes that much

So, no one has said " well you posted a pic of yourself so what do you expect ? "...yet

So I will say it, because some people will I imagine be thinking exactly that ?!

I am happy to discuss that question, because I imagine it is in some peoples minds ?!

Maybe its an idea to discuss that ?

I have to admit there is some level of vanity in it ,yes

But some level only, and it is not the only reason

The question is what do I "deserve" for doing so ??

Hiya, you deserve to play online without receiving inappropriate messages:)) Having a photo on your profile is no excuse for players to send you dubious messages.

Your opponent resigning, after you refused to have a voice chat says it all:((

Yes, I agree that it is very important to block/report such players. This is a chess site not a dating site!!

lol one man did ask me to marry him, but he was very nice about it, and my refusal :)

It wasn't a problem, and he is not blocked, or reported

Put your picture or not is a person's private matter @Tbootpoo and from what I know, very few people do voice chat here, so if somebody doesn't want you can't force a person to to any chat with you.
@QueenRosieMary i know it's also my private problem and as i said won't i can't force chats.
But please unblock our chats, I'm begging you.
I promise you i won't talk anything inappropriate.
I'm weak I'll admit it in public, but I won't harrass you.

No ,they cannot force a voice chat, but the point is that prior ones have not turned out well, at all

So I will not do them again..ever, even with people I ( think) I know

Sad maybe ? but it makes sense

That is very sad. I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences. I think voice chat has the potential to be a great feature, especially for playing casually with a friend whilst chatting, or for coaching purposes. I have so far had good experiences with it. I have had about 3 or 4 cases where people have offered teaching games with voice chat (mainly because typing while playing takes up too much time) which have gone fine with no hint of impropriety. One guy from a random classical arena where we were paired offered me coaching in exchange for English language conversation. He was always very polite and there was no hint of any improper agenda. I guess I have been lucky so far.

I have talked with a person that wanted to practice English. We talked in dms in a mixture of English and their native language (so I could practice their native language too! lol), and it was really nice! They were actually really fluent in English and just didn't have enough confidence.

But on the other hand, there are some really questionable people too that also want to practice English, so I think it's not wrong to assume the worst :)

It's really a hit and miss sometimes, although I've been luckier than most people.
