Someone mentioned to me that teaching theory or age-old tested methods do not apply well to adults.
in anycase. Kids will overlook the imperative mode by being kids and still exploring in spite of the directives.
Maybe just a suggestion. If at all considering the subconscious process in ones theory of learning, and still using imperative punchlines as take home reminders to echo in their own playing probably not just robotically applying the list of previously accumulated imperatives, as they are kids with intact play instinct and the world to explore, be it 8x8 limited in the 3D physical universe or worse on 2D screens (I am not a kid anymore, and I did my 3D basic chess first exposure for many games, so I am exempt from the screen in your face all the time is not good for you comment or even thought unsaid).
I think locomotion is a prerequisite to chess by the way, for the eager parent hovering over their future champion offspring. Let them play with balloons too. it might help in their chess.
ok seriously though: (well before i am not sure how kidding I was). Subconscious linguistics don't do negative form.
I suggest capital letters: "AVOID" the affirmative syntax equivalent for the wanted a negative action. It might sound sillly. but it is just linguistics, not logic. The avoidance concept is already a concept that does not need syntax distractions. Maybe though subconscious memory is not really active in chess theories of learning yet. Well, I know it is now not that weid, but mostly refered too as black box.
I would llike to hear about more updated psychology exposed people, maybe @NDpatzer, although I get this point of view from the psychogolical therapeutic arts of cognitive-behavioral and other schools of thoughts involving language self-talk patterns, there might be more reductinistic knowledge about this. Although, since we have no clue even about the concsious implementations, it might still be in the realm of ad-hoc scaffolding models that work. so back to those therapeutic empirical consensus about subconscious being kind of a zombie, when linguistics are concerned..
Yes, I am an alien. my name is Marvin, and I like my Roman soldier helmet with some plumage..
