Thank you for your Blog, sadly depression is not openly discussed often enough.
On a personal level, I'm fairly elderly and have been lucky enough to have never suffed from it. (Though now I would say that I'm depressed, but that's down to my health/life situation that I just can't change.)

People who never suffered from a depression often seem to confuse it with feeling bad about something.
Depression is a disorder that is linked to imbalances in the neurotransmitters in our brain, like for example serotonin or dopamine. It's not something you can change over a night by doing something fun. That's why it's a serious condition that requires professional help.
While I agree with most of your post, I do want to make it clear that people can also get overtaken by depression without experiencing something of sudden impact. It can crawl up into your system in a very slow and sneaky way.
If you ever feel like you are sliding into depression, try to force yourself into living healthy and have a good structure.
Sleep 8 hours. Go to bed in the evening and wake up in the morning. Being active at night is a big factor in getting messed up neurotransmitters. Eat healthy, don't drink alcohol, do daily exercices and go for a walk. You'd be surprised how much effect this has in your brain.
If you are not able to do those things, consider looking for professional help. If you have suicidal thoughts, make sure to contact the suicide prevention line. They exist in all countries and they have professionals to assist you through this period.

I agree, walking taking exercise can help, (for me when young, riding.)
Try talking to your friends, family, if you can. Not sure about suicide help lines, as being availble world wide?. Guess if people get to need them, many will not be in the position to contact them :(( But obviously they are often a lifeline.

That got me through a lot. Helps if you love someone unconditionally without ever being hurt in return. It's why people find recovery in Jesus. You can love Jesus unconditionally, men try to with chess and motorbikes too. Most of us never recover from a broken heart with no true rock or love to rely on. Levy and Hikaru have a loving wife for example and suffer similar stress to most at the top. They don't seem to drink now either (aka take a depressant!) Nor do I. Honestly zero alcohol helps you get it all out and process it, start facing the feelings which put you there and once worked through, I am ready to love again. Starting with me and haven't smoked for 6 weeks. Something changed, I found love again in myself after losing hope in everything else and letting go of all the shields I put up to protect my soul. Fight the feelings, face the music. Good luck.
