20 pawn moves in a row!

OpeningChessAnalysis
This shows a game, where the 1st 20 moves by black were pawn moves!

World Record
Officially, the world record for the most pawn moves in a row is still 17. In this game, my 1st 20 moves were pawn moves and I ended up mating my opponent 4 moves later!

Lessons to be learnt

  • Follow opening principles: Had my opponent followed opening principles (attacking the centre, developing minor pieces and getting the K safe, I would not have been able to do whatever I want.
  • Play with a plan: My opponent didn't really have a plan in this game, which is a recipe for disaster. Always play with a plan, keeping your opponents on their toes!
  • Play the board, not the opponent: Although my opponent's rated nearly 1000 points below me, the outcome could have been very different, had she focused on the position, rather than playing with the mindset, "I've got no chance against this high rated player". Don't let your opponent's rating dictate your moves, but always play the board, instead of the opponent!
