  1. dnlhlt I figure since that bishop gets traded off in the mainline anyway that's not a terrible move, and I get to develop with tempo
  2. dnlhlt wait crap no damn it wow that is bad
  3. dnlhlt okay so that's definitely a major weakness of mine
  4. dnlhlt looking at a threat, determining it is covered so I dismiss it, and then I go ahead and do something with the piece that covered it
  5. dnlhlt wow
  6. bornacavrag Yeah, it happens. But up to that point it was a really good effort
  7. bornacavrag thats The trick with this opening, it’s objectively bad but it creates an opportunity to make a mistake on every move...
  8. dnlhlt I think I did alright with the opening, transposing it into something I'm more familiar with
  9. dnlhlt but then I struggled to convert it into an attack that doesn't in itself concede new vulnerabilities
  10. dnlhlt (this is, of course, an extreme example)
  11. bornacavrag Probably at some point h6 or g6 even if not optimal would have clarified into something less complex
  12. dnlhlt yeah
  13. dnlhlt I was slightly concerned about you sacrificing your bishop on h3 to end up with your queen relatively close to my then-unprotected king
  14. bornacavrag Yeah...
  15. dnlhlt I guess that's the thing, when the queen is on the h-file (or a-file if long castled) it's good to have "escape squares" in *both* direction
  16. dnlhlt *directions
  17. bornacavrag at the same time, I think you did well in the middle to keep the queen/knight occupied and out of the attack
  18. dnlhlt but this is good why I'm playing longer games against players a bit above my level
  19. bornacavrag i gotta brush up on the opening though, those 6 queen moves surely weren’t optimal
  20. dnlhlt Nd5 would've probably worked in a shorter game against an 1100 :P
  21. bornacavrag Not sure
  22. dnlhlt I mean, according to the engine transposing into a Caro-Kann was a mistake compared to accepting the gambit
  23. bornacavrag even in shorter control, it was induced by the pawn push, so you can assume the opponent sees it
  24. dnlhlt yeah, true
  25. bornacavrag For sure - the gambit is -1 according to the computer
  26. bornacavrag but it opens up the lines to attack on f6 with bishop, knight and queen so it’s extremely sharp
  27. dnlhlt which is what you can ask for with a gambit, tbh
  28. bornacavrag against a 2000 you’re just a pawn down for nothing, but I find it good to learn how to attack and play with tempo
  29. dnlhlt true
  30. bornacavrag Anyhow, gotta run, thanks for thegame
  31. dnlhlt you too!
  32. bornacavrag food luck in the next rounds
