  1. MilsBees (8...Qb6) So yeah, so far this is what I expected
  2. MilsBees (8...Qb6) Expect now a3 Be7 Bf2 Qc7 Qf3
  3. MilsBees (12...b5) Now I believe the move is g5
  4. MilsBees (13.g4) Sorry I meant g4
  5. MilsBees (14.Bg2) This is still what I looked at in prep actually
  6. MilsBees (14.Bg2) g5 h4 was the idea now
  7. MilsBees (14.Bg2) and then black's best move is Rg8
  8. MilsBees (14.Bg2) There's also a line where I get 3 pieces for the queen after g5 h4 O-O-O hxg5 hxg5 Ne5 gxf6 Nxf3 fxe7 Qxe7 and Bxf3
  9. MilsBees (19...Nfd7) Feels like there must be something here?
  10. MilsBees (19...Nfd7) Rh7 Nxe6 or Rh8+
  11. MilsBees (19...Nfd7) But it's probably only one of them
  12. MilsBees (24...Bxg5+) Noooooooooooooooooo
  13. MilsBees (28...Kxd7) Man, that is so disappointing :(
  14. TheTchigorinDefense I saw your comments above. I think following the Karjakin-MVL game like I did is best for Black.
  15. MilsBees Yeah so I just totally underestimated Nfd7
  16. MilsBees When I first saw it I thought it must be wrong but then in so many lines the knight does a great job by going to f8 and I don't have anythin
  17. TheTchigorinDefense Apparently the Lichess engine analysis still thinks White is better there but I am not sure it adds up to anything concrete, and in the long
  18. TheTchigorinDefense run you have two weak pawns and I have nice knight outposts
  19. MilsBees Yeah, I guess I just have to play Kb1 and the game continues
  20. TheTchigorinDefense I can assure you that my 99% accuracy was not the result of consulting an engine :-)
  21. MilsBees It's rare to play someone so well booked, good learning experience for me
  22. TheTchigorinDefense I had not really looked at this line recently but I have played it several times in the past
  23. MilsBees haha never even crossed my mind
  24. TheTchigorinDefense A few seasons ago I think I had this same line through Nfd7 against someone here
  25. MilsBees Yeah I saw you have gone into this before, though you usually play 11.Nc6
  26. MilsBees At least in a few blitz games
  27. MilsBees I don't get to see Najdorf's often but it's fun to get these wild preppy lines
  28. MilsBees Clearly you have more experience here though
  29. TheTchigorinDefense 11 ... Nc6 is pretty uncommon but I think also good
  30. MilsBees Playing strength aside
  31. TheTchigorinDefense It's fun to play the most famous classic lines sometimes
  32. TheTchigorinDefense except when you blunder, but that can happen in any opening :-(
  33. MilsBees haha yeah true
  34. TheTchigorinDefense I have played Nc6 in blitz games but I remember the stuff after Nbd7 better :-)
  35. MilsBees haha yeah that was clear XD
  36. TheTchigorinDefense It's interesting that in the Lichess masters database after Nfd7 there are 78% draws. I think the position is more volatile than that.
  37. TheTchigorinDefense Some of those may be correspondence games though, so mostly engine thinking
  38. MilsBees Yeah, I guess it's just theory until some forced draw maybe?
  39. TheTchigorinDefense I doubt it is really forced (except in the way all of chess is probably
  40. TheTchigorinDefense a forced draw)
  41. MilsBees haha yeah okay
  42. TheTchigorinDefense Even in the Lichess database Black is doing OK
  43. TheTchigorinDefense Of course there are lots of other ways to play the 6 Bg5 Najdorf
  44. TheTchigorinDefense Well thanks for the game and good luck the rest of the event!
  45. MilsBees you too! good luck!
  46. TheTchigorinDefense thx!
