Good news! I'm happy to announce the first round pairings!
Since 34 players signed up and we had previously decided, for practical reasons, to make this a 32-player-RKWC, two playoffs will have to take place. These two matches are separate from the main bracket (and thus cannot be shown in the link given below) and determine which players enter the double elimination bracket. This means that whoever loses in the playoffs is directly eliminated and does not get a second chance in the losers bracket of the main tournament.
The format for the playoffs is just like that of any other match: 10 games of 3+2, a player can stop the match as soon as a decisive advantage (5.5 points) has been reached but it is also possible to fully complete the 10-game-series. If a match ends in 5-5, then pairs of two 3+2 games will be played until the score is unequal after an even number of games. In case the score reaches 8-8 the same procedure is repeated with the time format changing to 1+0.
The two playoff matches are:
@TJMorley (31st seed) - @kostasvl (34th seed)
@punyagupta (32nd seed) - @Vibranium18 (33rd seed)
The winner of TJMorley - kostasvl will proceed to face @RoyalManiac (seeded second) in the first round of the double elimination bracket, whilst whoever wins the punyagupta-Vibranium18 match is paired against the highest seed @a_47.
It would be really nice if both of these matches could be completed before July 1 but it's no problem if that is not possible. All other matches have to be played by July 7 by the latest so I do expect the playoffs to be finished preferably a few days before that date.
All other first-round matches are already known and are as follows, with the players' seeding displayed behind their name:
@sachmaty8 (3) - @andreijl (30)
@Babosos (4) - @BombastischerBomba (29)
@Opening_Player (5) - @kingslayer7 (28)
@RacingKingsKing (6) - @yabbadabbadooooo (27)
@massanto (7) - @dbwagner (26)
@ChessApple78 (8) - @ernoit (25)
@TheYuriy (9) - @Chijss (24)
@sriramprasad (10) - @paulinho98 (23)
@Moscowneversleep (11) - @Eagle_from_East (22)
@ezasucanget (12) - @Kristal (21)
@samiov (13) - @risky-chess (20)
@AlvaroChess99 (14) - @PepsiNGaming (19)
@mmo_mikhail (15) - @BayorMiller (18)
@Teraminx (16) - @Unicorn99 (17)
As soon as you read this, please follow these steps:
- contact your opponent and offer at least three match times (saying you're available a whole day counts for two)
- if you agreed on a match time, please post it in https://lichess.org/forum/team-racing-kings-wc/match-time-announcements
- play your match
- message the result to me, with a link to the first game included
- wait for your next pairing to be announced (you're only out of the RKWC if you have lost TWO matches, not immediately after your first defeat)
Also take into account that all games are by default RATED, unless both players agree it to be casual. A player can only end a match before all games are played if:
- one of the two players has a decisive advantage of (5.5 or more points)
- this is communicated clearly to the opponent
All rules can be looked up on https://sites.google.com/view/racingkingswc/2019-rkwc/rules but if there are any questions you can't find an answer to, don't hesitate to contact me.
The RKWC bracket itself can be found here (but isn't always up-to-date or even correct): https://challonge.com/RKCW
And last of all, good luck to all participants and a huge thanks for making this beautiful event possible! Let us all make Racing Kings great again once more!
