A database of chess games played on ICC - The search for Olegas, the master of the endgame

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has ever stumbled upon a DB/collection of games played on the ICC servers, dating back to before the emergence of todays giants (Chess.com, lichess, etc).

I would be particularly interested in analyzing the games of a player going by the name of Olegas. He had a unique approach to the game, forcing the endgame right out of the opening.

For old ICC games, chessgames.com has a surprisingly deep archive of games from the 90s-2000s era — worth searching "Olegas" there. PGN Mentor and the Week in Chess archive also have material from that period.

If you do track down his games, movebookchess.com would be a solid tool for importing and analyzing the collection — it breaks down patterns by opening, phase, and performance, which sounds perfect for studying someone known for their endgame-forcing style.

@therealawsawddf thanks for the reply! Interesting to know that chessgames.com houses ICC games too! I have tried searching for "Olegas", but got no results. Do you need to be register in order to search the DB? Were you able to get results for this entry? I cannot replicate it.

About PGN Mentor, I was under the impression that it only collects OTB games? Also, I did a quick search on https://www.pgnmentor.com/files.html#players but got no results for "olegas" or "krivonosov". Did you find any of his games there yourself? Finally, TWIC should only host games played online since the inception of Titled Tuesday, but I might be wrong about this. I would be surprised, however, if they had a DB of ICC games. Are you sure about it?

Thanks for recommending movebookchess.com, it does sound like an interesting and powerful tool! I will hopefully have data to test it w/ :)
