Exemplary Games: Olivia Smith vs. Keith Arkell (Guernsey op 48th)

The December issue of British Chess Magazine contains IM Shaun Taulbut's analysis of WFM Olivia Smith's impressive win against GM Keith Arkell in the Guernsey op 48th. Particularly pleasing were the moves 6.a4 and 21.f5 creating squares for her bishop and knight respectively. White then piled up her pieces on the kingside, giving up the rook to finally break the opposing lines.

21.f5!! is the key to the kingside attack.

On the other hand, 43.Rxg7 was still winning, since 43...Qh8+ is met by 44.Qh3, blocking check. And if 44...Qxg7 comes 45.Qc8#, checkmate!
