@FanDesEchecs I suspect that's because the opening explorer only orders moves by popularity, as opposed to rating--and the vast majority of players who start out with f3 evidently plan to continue with the joke opening formed after Kf2 (much like how many players will intentionally start out with e4 and Ke2 because they find it funny to do so).

The database shows the moves played in order of occurrence in lichess/OTB games whichever one chooses and not the best move. For seeing best move, forget opening explorer and see what Stockfish suggests.

if white does 1f3 and black does d5 2f4 transpose to a dutch with reversed colour while 1f3 e5 is more annoying to face in my opinion.
since f3 blocks the knight.

their isnt a point in playing f3 as a legitimate move. when people play it, the point is a joke.

The database is reporting on what people did. It's not making a suggestion.

If the DB reported people voted for some political figure in some election, you wouldn't say that person was being recommended.
