Exemplary Games: So vs Nakamura (Saint Louis, 2015)

I invite you to leave some comments about this exemplary game.

Wesley So vs Hikaru Nakamura, Saint Louis (Sinquefield Cup 2015).

Yes, that is a nice slaughter. Nakamuras sacrifice orgy is pleasant to watch, like the old masters.

Regarding the opening, white failed to prove an advantage in the 13 Nd3 variation. So's 17 cxd6 was another inaccuracy, allowing b7-b5. The main lines start with 17.Nb5 and i have nine correspondence games in my database with a line where black sacs a knight on e4:

All of them ended with draw.
These types of positions are a good example that correspondence chess is not just copying computer moves like some say. Sad that we dont have this on lichess.
That‘s the King‘s Indian. White wins a rook, Black wins the King.
In the TCEC 2017 super final Houdini won a King's Indian Mar del Plata with black against Kodomo.
In a recent final round with must win as black Nakamura against Carlsen did not dare play the King's Indian and got a draw. Carlsen commented that if Nakamura wanted a bad position, he could have played the King's Indian.

13.Rc1 seems to be better. Maybe the knight on e1 could have been more useful in defending the kingside. Anyway Wesley got very passionate about the attack on the queenside, perhaps influenced by engines evaluation. Your line where Black sacrifices the knight on e4 is very interesting. I was looking for some games and I found the next one (Ralf-Axel Simon vs Antonio Demetrio, ICCF, Champions League 2012 A):

Yes, 13 Rc1 (the idea is a pawn sac with 14 c5) is the toughest nut to crack for black. Against Korchnois 13 a4 black should play 13 ... a5. 13 g4 is also not bad, blacks best answer is 13 ... b6. Against 13 b4 the default black attack (Ng6, Nf6, Rf7) is fast enough.
Fischer was a famous player of the Mar del Plata, but in crucial games against Botvinnik, Taimanov, Petrosian, Spassky he shifted to other defences. In the revanche match against Spassky he played the King's Indian again, but that was a different setting without seconds.
