Is it possible to be a a GM from a beginner in a year?

I was thinking 🤔 whether people actually become GMs fast, is it possible with full dedication

It takes years of training, studying, and playing to become a GM. Not even someone as good as Magnus can turn into a GM that quickly.

There are limits just purely in terms of available tournaments and incremental increases to one's rating. Even if a human emerged with the strength of the Leela AI, they would not attain GM in one year. It takes time to travel internationally, increase ratings, attain IM norms, GM norms, etc.

Be born again and study for 20 years, and maybe you will be a GM. It's really hard to try to be a GM, even very very talented players sometimes only make a lesser title, which is still a great achievement.

It's like saying, if I play tennis for one year, can I go to the Australian open? No. Or can I beat Roger Federer? No.

Just enjoy your chess and try to achieve something which isn't so difficult. Try winning a tournament first or raising your rating by 300 points first, before you look at something which is even harder than that. Just have fun with your chess and take it slowly. Don't shoot for the moon yet. Just aim for a nearby mountain.
