there is no favourite
They're all same
same eyes same face
same proportions
just a finite set of different hair, color, and clothing

As in all graphic art or Japanese prints, there are artistic codes and academic canons that artists learn before they can develop a more personal style. But even within these academic canons, professional artists will manage to deviate from them, and you won't find two similar styles among two different manga artists or animators. Leiji Matsumoto's characters don't resemble those of Eiichiro Oda. Anecdotally, Miyazaki himself, as a teenager, have destroyed his first manga because he found them too similar to those of one of the manga artists he admired. Miyazaki has a unique style, but we can also see a form of evolution between his first films and new "The Boy and the Heron".

Btw, the artistic direction in the case of an anime is managed by the animation studio, it's they who decide the artistic canons when it comes to a production freely adapted from a manga. but in the case of a faithful adaptation, the author of the manga is consulted and sometimes gets involved

no character no personality
they don't eat nor wash
they never stumble, cough, sneeze, spit, nor sing nor murmur or dance
they have no hobbies no pets no turtles no dogs or cats no singing birds let alone any favorites of anything

like zombies so hollow
you might jus' aswell say...

fake

Again, it depends on the manga or the adaptation. In One Piece, you often see the characters eating, and it's actually a running gag in the case of Luffy, the main character.

those huge eyes are designed to strike a lightning into your central nervous system.
it's a perfidious marketing fraud.
it appeals to your urge to love and care for helpless and cute babies whose eyes are generally notably bigger than grown-ups'es's ( in relation to the whole face dimensions ).
the way they dart forward their upper body just to say something - also this move and alike behavior is calculated to insinuate a sympathy for an "emotional" vibe.
same with clothing, colours, accessories, weapons - and there's what's preponderant and worst:
conflicts, fights, elbows, destroying others is a major topic throughout the whole anime business.
its got that violence in common with the gamers scene - friendly peaceful, interesting inciting, games are few only.
the anime industry has thus all in all [º] an agressive way of aiming at that generation - scholars, kids, gamers.
and addicting them to this line of the entertainment sector is only welcome and makes the owners super rich.
[º] - not because of the aggressive content but for the whole calculated marketing favorable properties aggressively chosen to touch your unaware deep archaïc underconcious in a similar way like for grown-ups' calculated aggressive marketing strategy we all know "sex sells".

but, hey, you eat what's on the table
or you get nothing
lol

@CSKA_Moscou try bird's eye view from even much further away, ... say, .. fromout judging culture, entertainment, freetime, games, depicting arts, media, marketing strategies, ... as a whole that those nasty little 2d creations got thrown into, squeeking and yelling, barking and looking cutely fierce and out for a kill ... i mean, hey, what? .. that's not even funny in a surrealistical way - just morbid imo

I agree with what you say about the industry, as in other art forms, there is a commercial aspect and a certain relationship with the public. But does this really apply to all anime? I don't think so.

Studio Ghibli films often make films that are epic or inspired by this epic side, like Homer's Odyssey or Robin Hood, but they are rarely violent. "Princess Mononoke" is inspired by Japanese legends, for example, and "My Neighbor Totoro" is totally suitable for young audiences. Also, we must differentiate anime and cartoons. Anime has an epic side that is suitable for teenager, but on the other hand, Looney Tunes-type cartoons also have their share of jokes and some characters like Yosemite Sam use weapons.

And if you want to know more about the aesthetics that led to the faces of anime characters, I can only recommend taking a look at Ukiyo-e prints that depicted kabuki actors or scenes from everyday life, for example by Utagawa Kuniyoshi or Hiroshige and Hokusai.

Utagawa Kuniyoshi really depicted funny characters, and Hokusai, if I'm not wrong, is considered as one of the father of the manga
