Post-Mortem of our Longest Downtime

Thanks for clarifying and explaining what happened. I think we are all happy to be able to play on lichess. So much work goes into this entire awesome project and should not be taken for granted. I'm sure this crash only made lichess stronger and paves the way into an even better future. Thx to all the people who made this project happen to this day! All the best!
Thanks for explaining! Really love the attitude of community responsibility in Lichess. The effort put in by so many on the Lichess team is amazing and makes such a big difference bringing joy to so many in the world. A huge thanks to you all!
Thanks for the detailed explanation, downtimes like this are bound to happen in any non-distributed system. It was not a human error, but a hardware failure. Most people have no idea how much money it would cost to host a server with this many users, especially when it comes to scaling with distributed systems and load balancers. As a free platform, Lichess understandably doesn't have the financial resources to implement such infrastructure. I encourage everyone to keep this in mind when comparing Lichess to other paid alternatives.

A huge thank you to the entire Lichess team for your hard work and for continuing to offer such a fantastic service for free!

> We recently made a change where players can no longer choose to play as black or white in all games except for direct challenges. Some players have a debt to a certain colour, to rebalance the games they owe with that colour.

I mostly play variants where it was never available, like Atomic or Horde, so I don’t face much difference)
But that’s spectacular to solve that cooldown. Big thx!
When I didn't see the Gia's robot drawing during the downtime like as usual... I thought it would be the end of Lichess. That was scary.
Desde hace unas semanas liches no me funciona en la tv! Jugaba en la tv y no se me carga bien! Se arreglará también? O perderé lichess?
Mejorar el tablero de análisis tipo chescom para ser ya los mejores del todo!
Serious respect to Lichess for sharing this, and very promptly!

There are many large companies, governments, and other entities that do not respect the public, their users, or the law, enough to provide this kind of transparency. Instead, covering up service outages for as long as possible, then disclosing as little details as possible, and never admitting culpability.

Of course, Lichess (i.e., Thibault) would do the right thing. Keep up the good work!
