Nimzovich recommended an assymmetrical approach: if white goes Nf3 then ...Nge7 and if white plays Nge2, then ...Nf6. Bf8 is the good bishop, not on the color of the pawns. It should not go to b4 to trade for Nc3, it should go to d6.
