Correspondence game cheet detected!

Hello,

I recently opted for playing correspondence chess on lichess.org and while i was checking for an alternative move for a blunder by my opponent, I suddenly got the beep sound and when I opened the game tab I saw the "cheat detected" message which lead to my defeat causing me lose about 100 rating points in my first game. ICCF allows using engines in correspondence chess since 2018. Why would I lose a match in which I didn't even use engines to do my moves although it wouldn't be illegal even if I did so?

If you don’t know now you know.

If you don’t know now you know.

Know what exactly? That lichess doesn't know the rules?

@raminjafar, two things:

  1. Using an engine for correspondence games on Lichess is tolerated, under the conditions that you and your opponent have explicitly agreed to do so AND the match is not rated.

  2. Using the analysis board for scoring positions/checking database games during any game played on the site will result in a loss for the player doing it. If you want to play some variations to see potential outcomes of a move during the game, there is a button for it, just above the move list on the game page, that opens an analysis board without Stockfish loaded on the browser and without the game database.

I think using opening explorer/analysis board without engine usage is allowed on lichess.

@raminjafar Lichess doesn't know which rules? ICCF rules? Where does it state on this site that it follows those rules? If you believe Lichess follows the rules of every chess organisation and site on the planet then I think I've found your problem!

"I think using opening explorer/analysis board without engine usage is allowed on lichess."

"Engine" and "analysis board" are just other words for "chess software". Replace those words in your sentence and re-read it.

On lichess, in corrsponding games engine useage is not allowed while opening book consultation is allowed in correspondence games. Check their FAQ: https://lichess.org/faq#correspondence

On lichess, in correspondence games (and only there) it is allowed to use an analysis board with engine disabled. You can get such an analysis board by opening it directly from the actual game. The "Switch on engine" toggle is disabled if you open the analysis board that way, so no danger of accidentally activating it. The respective button is not available in other time controls, as on lichess the usage of the analysis board is only allowed in correspondence games.

Why do people virtually everything EXCEPT reading the F.A.Q.?

If you want to play correspondence, then play on ICCF not on lichess.
Lichess forbids something it cannot patrol for correspondence, which is a bit hypocrite.
Lichess patrols something which is harmless.
If you really want to play correspondence on lichess, then use lichess only to input your move and analyse offline.
