- where do you find the games?
- if you go to @lichess you will see that there are 1,976,310 imported games, and those are the masters database games, but if you go to the analysis board, at the bottom (when you open the explorer book icon), at the bottom it says 2,716,912 (at the time of writing this) and also the (Σ) icon. What does that all mean?
- It would be nice if users could submit games to be added to the database of 2200+ players that are found either on other websites or from tournaments (not sure how this would work, but an idea)

Oh also, 4. Are games ever deleted?

Masters database is comprised of OTB games of 2200+ FIDE rated players from 1952 to August 2024 (at the time of writing). I'm not sure if some of them will ever get deleted.

"For those that don't know, Tony Rottella provided the initial Lichess master database when the opening explorer was introduced in 2016. I don't know who or how that master database of OTB games is maintained." - jomega

Σ is a Greek capital letter "Sigma". It is used to represent sum/total. See how the percentage is represented as 100% since it adds all percentages. It also represents the total games and I'm guessing it also displays the average result calculated from the database.
the @lichess account is just one of the game importers. Many different other accounts also contributed to the importing of games. You can also do it yourself. https://lichess.org/paste

It is not guaranteed that lichess will add every single game you import to the database.

Thank you. I import my own games that i find interesting from the broadcasts that can be found in my imported games section, also, all the masters games i have seen all say “Imported by @Lichess”. Also you said that it is unknown where they get the gamesas far as I understood?

how cool!

I quoted jomega in saying the early origins of the masters database. Looks like that ending sentence got in here too. And yea, you're right. I don't know how they are maintained or where they get them from. Someone in the forums might do, or you may find someone who does.
