Claims by many focus on FF2 being a rip-off but basically if you don’t want it, don’t buy it. Many people like the interface. The 3D chess is insanely good for example.

Also no one is claiming they are not following the letter of the law. Just that they are not clear enough? What? Thats every thing for sale everywhere. Right?

But Bottom line If your going to defame someone like they do A.Silver you really need a better foundation then he is trying to sell something for more then it’s worth.

Except they AREN'T following the letter of the law. Is Fat Fritz 2 available for free under the GPLv3 license? Because that is one of its terms; any modified or derivative work must be made available under the same license as Stockfish.

I don’t agree.

The source code of Stockfish and the modifications for Fat Fritz 2.0 CAN be found on Github.
Yesterday CCRL has updated their rankings and now Fat Fritz2 is leading with about 20 points above Stockfish 12

@Megadoggah the (partial) source can be found now after stockfish contacted them to let them know they were in violation of the gpl. before stockfish contacted them the source wasn't available.

they are still breaking the spirit of open source software

They can sell open source software. Everyone does. They released the code for FF2 engine. A bit sketchy at first I agree but 99% of what they are selling is their interface and always was. Seems like internet mob mentality to me. Don’t like it don’t buy it. But it’s actually good but overpriced software. Being overpriced is not a crime. I don’t see the issue after they released the code in compliance with the license.

you'll note I never said they couldn't sell open source software, so your argument is a straw man and will be ignored.

Has there been any official statement from Albert Silver or Chessbase yet, refuting what the Stockfish developers said ?

the main problem I have is the fact that these open source, free engines are created by tens thousands of hours of volunteer work by unpaid developers, and what silver and chessbase are doing, although while maybe not illegal, is profiting off of the work of those volunteers without any significant contribution, and spitting in the face of open source innovation.

But these small ELO differences in the blitz lists can be ignored. Both engines are equally strong, which is no miracle, as Fat Fritz is Stockfish.
