Why is there almost no gambit that is in top engine moves?

"If a gambit was the top engine move "
The Queen's Gambit, the Catalan Opening, the Two Knights Defense, and the Marshall Attack are sound gambits that are top engine moves, but they are exceptions.

Due to today’s chess computers/chess engines, think that at least 80% of openings can be thrown out of the window.

Pretty obvious. You give up a pawn. Chess is first about material. Though gambit probably score better on fast time controls.

If that was the case the best strategy would be to capture the gambit pawn and hold on to it which is not considered best practise. Another case would be a practical Rook endgame where activity is more important than material in most cases.

Obviously you way more than I do but still original wondering list it seems that taking is objectively best. At least ones I checked. With kings gambit funny this that amongst lichess players king gambit scores better then nf3. I guess defensive skill are missing.

But the most gambits we know, like Danish Gambit, Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, King's Gambit, Wing Gambit (in Sicilian), Halloween Gambit, Muzio Gambit, Nakhmanson Gambit and much more others are not recommendedor even losing by computer.

Danish gambit clean favors black not much tough but white loses more than orginal advantage - though on blitz I never take it. just too much calculate

Blackmar-Diemer Gambit: Taking gambit is clearly better

Kings gambit: again best move is to take it. On master level black wins way more games than white.

nakhmanson gambit close to losing. Funny thing that hitting with knight instead pawn is more common amongst lichess players.

wing gamb it: I was surprised that objectively this not worse than kings gambit

King's Gambit: again back is better takin pawn is better. Though I never do. falkbeer is just much easier

Yes hanging on the extra pawn can dangerous but on my skill level can really judge other that obvious blunders hanging on the queens gambit pawn
