it is horsey chess.
a black king on e8 and white king on e1.
the 2nd and 7th lines are horseys.
that's the starting position.
a horsey is a knight that doesn't move backwards.
but it can move one square up.
that's the horsey.
but black and white have a extra pawn.
black has it on e5 and white on e4.
all loss, draw and win methods in standard chess are applied.
isn't it amazing?

An interesting new variant idea is atomic crazyhouse. Blow up the king or checkmate to win, and you get pieces you explode!

what is ..
a knight that doesn't move backwards.
but it can move one square up.
??
that's a pawn then.

@SamarthGadamshetty if it doesn't move like a knight but like a pawn then it's a pawn and not a knight.
if it captures like a knight, it's a pawn that captures like a knight.
when it reaches the other side it can't move anymore.
or can it capture backwards?

oh, and with your starting material i dont see many chances to even checkmate ( with lots of immobile horseys on the last line in endgame )

a knight that is combined with a pawn. such as an white horsey on f4 can go to f5. and a white horsey that is on f4 can go to e6, d5, g6 and f5. it can checkmate
