Magnus got disqualified from world rapid and blitz chess championships because he was wearing jeans

Moreover, FIDE does not need Magnus more than he needs FIDE. If Magnus stops playing chess completely, chess (even classical chess) will go on fine; we have many exciting players. He is not the centre of the chess universe. He should stop throwing tantrums.

Nonsense. He's currently the big cahuna in this game. He has proven over and over again to be the reigning champ, regardless of who takes some kind of "title". Treating him as if he is a like a little schoolboy about a pair of jeans is absurd. What's next? Haircut is not regulation. Shoes not shiny enough... He responded like a kid in return to challenge the BS. Now FIDE realized what absurdity they had caused, they are trying to walk it back and allow jeans. He didn't show up with torn shorts with somehing hanging out the side :-)

This is total incompetence in handling people. The man deserves FIDE's respect, he's earned it.

It's not a matter of dress code, it's a matter of respect. The guy has power and he tries to exercise it, no more than that. This arrogance harms the common ground we all meet around. No respect means no community, no community means no fair chess for everyone. The moment some partial actor like Magnus take some power over the community, the toy will brake, simple as that. If we dont understand this and clear the ground from money-greed players, sponsors and silly streamers, there will be much bigger problems than jeans.
