The idea was:-

  1. g3 Bxg3
  2. Rg8+ Kxg8
  3. Ne7+ Kf7
  4. Nxc6...

And somehow win with my active knight and I had a better pawn structure than black

I must say that move 26 was a blunder if black had taken your rook, you would have forked with Ne7+ and then after you capture the black rook, each side will have 4 pawns. I understand that you have 3vs2 pawn majority but that will do no good because black has a bishop and you have a knight plus black will have a slightly active king.

A knight is better than a bishop most of the times with perfect play but a bishop pair is better than a knight pair with perfect play
