How can black be victorious? It was a draw

He only had a king and a knight and the clock ran out because of the unfair lag compensation.

If black only has a king and a knight to a king. Its a draw because a single knight cannot deliver a checkmate... You'll ethier need 2 knights or 1 knights and a bishop or 2 bishops to win...

I just checked your game archive. In the game in question you still had a pawn yourself - and that's the problem when your time runs out.

Theoretically, you could promote your pawn into a knight or a bishop, and then it would theoretically be possible for your opponent to checkmate you with his knight.

That's equivalent to resigning, and so no time out should result in a draw.

As a supplement to #3:

Of course, to make things even crazier, it's even possible for you to promote your pawn into a rook and even then lose, since mate by the knight is theoretically possible.

Such are the rules of online chess!

Yes but I'm white, I should have gotten a draw not a loss!
