There Isn't One IM or GM that has NOT Studied ALOT of Chess Books Chess Videos & or had a Coach

For most of us, does it make sense to be very concerned about what it takes to become an IM or a GM?
"... the NM title is an honor that only one percent of USCF members attain. ..." - IM John Donaldson (2015)

As it happens, there ARE those who write about improvement at lower levels.
"... In order to maximize the benefits of [theory and practice], these two should be approached in a balanced manner. ... Play as many slow games (60 5 or preferably slower) as possible, ... The other side of improvement is theory. ... This can be reading books, taking lessons, watching videos, doing problems on software, etc. ..." - NM Dan Heisman (2002)

It's Sad However that MANY Chess Players want a Shortcut to gaining Rating Points or believe they will get there by Playing Chess Only' ... Though of course you must Play OTB Live Games to get Titles
@ThunderClap I fully agree, I hope the lichess forum bug gets fixed soon, so I can let likes rain on your comments ^^

I especially think it's sad how they want to become good without spending any money on it. There are so many cool chess creators, for example all the sick content I've seen on chessable - a lot of it is actually worth the prize, but people for some reason aren't willing to pay anything for chess - no coach, no books, nothing. They want to attend chess as a sport, but treat it like a game. I myself haven't spent a lot, but for sure a few hundred bucks the last 5 years on books, coaches. I used both - free content and content you pay for - and I have to say - to pay for certain things is absolutely worth it in many cases. I wish I would have had the wisdom back then, so I would not have wasted my time with pointless blitz games, clickbait youtube opening videos and twitch streams.
You know OP, most people aren’t that ambitious...

Personally, I’d be over the moon if I ever become an NM or CM.
@TeenageDimwit I don't think he is talking about people like you and me, but rather about 1300s thinking they will become the next Magnus Carlsen by playing Hyperbullet for a year.
That is not true. There were GM's before it was even possible to look videos. And in that times there were IM's with "natural chess" only fore sure. And they could be still alive ;-)

Regarding new titles you are right i guess.

Ignorance is bliss.

I remember when I was 1300, I used to get so much happiness from finding simple tactics but now that I am 2300, my chess often makes me cringe lol.
