Any general advise on playing against the Caro-Kann?

I typically play the advanced: 1. e4, 2. d4, 3. e5 then 4. c4 5. Nf3
but I find these games rather boring, like most closed positions....I guess it could be worse though, it could be the French ::barf::

I've played 4 knights open a few times (gambit the pawn) and that def seems like a more fun game......does anyone have any lines that work particularly well against the Caro-Kann?

Caro-Kann is very solid and many tactical players struggle with it.
Fischer played the 2 knights 1 e4 c6 2 Nc3 d5 3 Nf3, the reverse King's Indian 1 e4 c6 2 d3, the classical 1 e4 c6 2 d4 d5 3 Nc3 and the exchange 1 e4 c6 2 d4 d5 3 exd5 cxd5 and now either 4 c4 or 4 Bd3.

Probably Reverse King's Indian and Classical Caro will get the positions you're more looking for. What kinds of openings do you prefer as Black? Use those ideas and experiment.

From time to time, I try b4 and b5 early on in order to open up the center a bit. I haven't really analyzed it, and I assume it is awful from an objective point of view, but it is at least a little more exciting.
Normally, though, I just play 2. Nc3 and stay in the main lines.

Play the Tal variation. It's anything but boring.

I love the faces of my opponents when I play the French De-fence.

in the advance variant tried the bayonet attack (4. Cc3, e6; 5. g4, Fg6; 6. Cge2, c5 ...) and on the exchange variant you try the panov attack ( 4. c2-c4)

dans la variante d'avance essayée l'attaque à la baïonnette (4. Cc3, e6 ; 5. g4, Fg6 ; 6. Cge2, c5...) et sur la variante d'échange t'essaye l'attaque panov(4. c2-c4)

@mrmuaddib I avoided e4 for the 1st 2yrs of playing to chess to avoid the Sicilian, french, etc. But I enjoy the more tactical lines to the more positional lines that d4 tends to lead to.

you can try 1. e4 c6 2. Nc3 c6 3. Qf3, but in my experience, most players won't give you the interesting positions that can arise after d4 4. Bc4
