New! CaptureBot - the bot that desparately wants to capture

I have to say that I had success with https://lichess.org/@/RandomMoverBot. People have fun with it and it has played more than 2500 games within less than a week.

Yet, often times I feel sorrow for it being so helpless.

CaptureBot still does not use an engine, but has some smartness to its moves: whenever it can make a capture, it will make a capture, and not only that, it will try to make the capture for which the value of the captured piece minus the value of the capturing piece is highest.

Still, if the only possible capture is losing a queen for a pawn, then CaptureBot, being so desparate to make a capture, will make this capture.

I really wonder what this depth 0 smartness means in terms of rating. RandomMoverBot is an excellent benchmark for this.

Players are profit oriented.

Even at a site which ends with .org, players are profit oriented.

Of all rated games CaptureBot played so far, overwhelming majority were Antichess and RacingKings. These are the two variants, where either you have to make a capture anyway, or making a capture is not legal. In Antichess winning material does not make sense, so CaptureBot tends to make the worst possible capture instead of playing a random capture.

Players figured out that the most rating at the least risk they can gain in these two variants.

Instead of a scientific experiment about how this simple logic makes a bot's game stronger it turned into a rating maximalizing experiment.

I you ever wondered why republicans ignore global warming and do so with success, then it is because they know that kind of profit maximalizing nature of people and how they are not interested in forwarding the scientific case.

I imagine that f stands for financial data. When there is a knight on f3, pressing f may or may not send the user's financial data to the IRS. Then turning the monitor upside down is still the safest way to flip the analysis board.
