The right to revenge in chess

Ho-hum... I must be getting tired, or the meds are kicking in, because this thread is really boring.

Mostly it's the fear of losing. Simple as that. Doesn't matter what spin one tries to give to it, regardless of ELO. Imagine you're in the gym and you spar with a fighter, after the first round of sparring, your opponent goes: "ok bye!"

You ask: "Don't you wanna go on?"
they say: "Nope! bye!"
You ask "Why?"
Here the rationalization part begins: "We already fought, I never fight same person twice." or "I don't have to explain anything!"

Ofc they've got the reason to, but I find it quite .... eh let's be diplomatic here... "funny". Unless they were toxic, annoying etc...

In short it's often one thing to want to play someone else, but I believe most people just care about a win they just snatched.

In my opinion anybody who isn't a professional and cares deeply about their ELO (given by a website) is quite... "funny" ;)

That's my 2 cents.

Well your 2 cents are not quite worth two cents. Biggest reason for not accepting re-matches is : Why should I.

So far I have not met single good reason to. So I will not (I may have once but i ma not sure) because

  • I've done playing so i reject
  • I wann play there get a new opponent which far more interesting option

I think fear of losing is part of the reason sometimes, but completely disagree with the rest of #32

In chess you should always play silently so you don’t get distracted but always play against someone better than you so you get better.

Punishment is synonym to retribution, while revenge is a primal and personal form of it.
Retribution is a concept of consequences for wrongdoing.
Even if I blunder in chess, I do not need to be corrected or feel the need to prove I can do better.

When a player seeks a rematch after a loss, it's often not just about playing another game.
A rematch is a form of personal justice, a way to re-balance the rating after a defeat.
The first game was just a soft tap, and the rematch is the shark attack.
I don't need to play in a pool of sharks. I already feel like bait, just responding to this forum subject.
I said my piece. Peace be with you all. I now take my right to unsubscribe. @Whisker1

Do you remember the games or players you lost to?
If not, is it then important with a rematch?

Whether anyone cares or not, rematch is not important to me.

still going on?

As always arguments on both sides. Although it is simple. If there is a right for a rematch, then there is a right for a re-rematch, and.....you've got it. Could go on forever. That cannot be.

AH but the colors. Right, but if that is the(only) reason for a rematch, you say I only demand a rematch if I were black and lost.
Fair? I don't think so. Can white not demand a rematch?
