"You must take your opponent into a deep, dark forest where 2+2=5 and the way out is only wide enough for one." -Tal.
I named my account after this quote. I find it hilariously over-the-top and unnecessarily serious.
I'm also fond of the various Tartakower-isms, such as, "Chess has 3 phases: the opening, where you hope you are better; the midgame, where you think you are better; and the endgame, where you know you are going to lose."
This one quite apt for me
Chess does not drive people mad; it keeps mad people sane. Bill Hartston .
I also like Fischers one which goes something like this I think ,
If I win I'm a genius, if I lose I'm just a loser .

''Chess is a battle between no wanting to lose and not wanting to think'' Jan Gustafsson
"... The life of many grandmasters is perhaps not what the average club player imagines. While some work hard at the game, many do not. A life-style of getting up at midday, playing over a few games from Informator, watching some television, looking at an opening for an hour or so and then going out for a few beers is not uncommon. Of course, this is a gross simplification and there are many hard-working and well-organized grandmasters (there are also some who manage without the Informator and opening analysis parts of the day). ..." - GM John Nunn (1997)

I believe he was referring to Vidmar.
Thanks for the correction (I had a feeling I messed up).
