There's some inherent joy - not just practical value but a sort of pleasure - in employing your own opening idea. Many players have, throughout history, introduced novelties that, regardless of the result produced, excited their imagination & manifested their creativity.
Have you ever played a novelty that you have fond memories of? Maybe a rare opening idea? Let me know in the comments
(Personally, my favorite invention of mine is what is aptly called by me the "Horny Gambit," since the opening - 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 f5 - resembles two central "horns" on c5 and f5. Although I never played my Horny Gambit over the board, it brought me great joy in internet chess, where I defeated multiple Grandmasters, although of course, it was not the result that mattered, but the originality of the opening that brought me great satisfaction. As an addition to your own opening ideas, I'd welcome any opinions on mine!)
