Why do people care more about countries they don't live in compared to their own country?

Not all people are like this, but a statistically significant portion of the population are like this (at least that's what I've observed with USA).

US hegemony makes it that the US is in nearly every country all the time.
Your topic is pretty vague. And I have a feeling you have something specific in mind.

Not really anything specific, simply why do we (USA), "care" so much and send so much "aid" to to countries: A, B, C, ... X, Y, Z.
I wouldn't say I care more about any other country than the one I live in exactly,
but it can be more interesting to know what is going at some other place where your heart lies.
In my country a politicians heart lies, but my heart lies not with them. (trying to be funny)
The answer to your question is maybe about ideologies?
To me it is a bit complex and difficult to explain exactly, because you can care in different ways.
Because sometimes, what happens to people living in a different country is so monstrously horrific that whatever issue you might face in your daily life seems almost petty in comparison.

I don't expect you to understand.

Also:
1) care is usually not exclusive,
2) the US external policies does not reflect the opinion of the majority.
Why don’t you call a spade a spade? It’s pretty clear what you mean.

If you Americans think you can do it alone, just go ahead.

In FY 2022 (the most recent breakdown on the CRFB website), US foreign aid was less than 1% of the budget.
