War crimes?

It's funny that there a things in war that are not allowed, like there are rules to who you can and can't kill. Is war not a crime in itself? Thou shall not kill is the second commandment. I don't understand,, war crimes ?
War is a crime xxx

You do realize that the "shall not kill" thing is a totally wrong modern interpretation, it should read "shall not kill for no <<good>> reason"/"shall not murder", the hebrew word that google states would be "ratsakh" is specific in that, you can read more here:

https://www.google.com/search?q=%22shall+not+kill%22+%22shall+not+murder%22

If it were otherwise this would be a very strange thing (but it is not as humans seem to always be at war for whatever reasons):

Be it for chess or for anything else: Read original sources whenever you can and care about the original language whenever you can. There is a rule of thumb in diplomacy to send off any text to another government in your own language to make sure you don't mess it up and there are good reasons for that.

"Thou shall not kill" can also be interpreted as "Thou shall not murder," hence allowing for justified killing in self-defense or state defense. So im sure Jesus would also agree acting in self defense is not considered a war crime

An eye for an eye is Hebrew.

An eye for an eye

That's good. "A life for an eye" is worse, so "an eye for an eye" is "progress".

You achieve military objectives through normal combat operations.

War crimes don't provide any advantage, but they result in the death of people, animals, and so on. Therefore, it's in the interests of all civilised parties to agree in advance not to commit war crimes.

"War crimes don't provide any advantage"

  • They do by terror.
Alexander the Great sent envoys demanding the surrender of a city. When the city surrendered, the inhabitants were spared and treated well. When the city refused to surrender, he seized the city and brutally murdered inhabitants. The word spread and soon more cities surrendered without any resistance.

Ah those golden days, when life was far more simple and straightforward, how I miss thou.
