Comparing Ronaldo to Messi is like comparing a center-back to a left-back.
Ronaldo has different attributes over Messi and vice-versa.

Ronaldo's Attributes:

  1. Shooting
  2. Flair
  3. Heading
  4. Speed
  5. Freekicks

Messi's Attributes:

  1. Speed
  2. Dribling
  3. Shooting (at a lower extent)
  4. Passing

You see that they have different attributes.
I will support my claim with the following:

Ronaldo's Position:
ST

Messi's Position:
LW

A striker has different roles than a left-wing.
I will demonstrate them with the following:

Striker's Role:

  1. Scoring goals: Either from Crosses or from long passes

Winger's Roles:

  1. Making chances: A winger should do a cross to the striker or pass the ball to the midfield so the midfielders can make some chances on their own.
  2. Scoring goal: This role is not as essential for a winger as for a striker, but still vital. The best example of wingers taking this role was Thiery Henry. He would run on the flanks, surpass the Left-backs, cut in, and score a goal.
