I use the milk and butter method (not too much of either though), plus making sure those potatoes are absolutely mashed. :).

i use cream and butter but here is the ultimate mashed potato version from my country called ‘kumpir’ which you bake whole potato in the oven and open it after cooked you add butter and cheese you mix inside of a potato and add lots of toppings might be corn, olives, american-russian salad everything!

That looks good, and also likely a quite filling meal, might try something similar myself next time. :).
