Is Everything Online Fake? Probably.

WaYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Too much respect for podcasters I've noticed

Joe Rogan definitely. He and the people he interviews spout the stupidest slop imaginable then hide under the veil of "free speech" and "free thinkers"

Am I fake?...

I consulted with my Magic 8-Ball, and it said, "All signs point to Yes". You can't argue with science...

Yeah, a stupid 8 ball from temu said that I do not exist...

For those who say question reality, you ARE real. And there ARE real people online.

If you are lucky enough to come to sites like Lichess (which thankfully has no talking BOTS as far as I can tell), and post a forum about “Is Everything Online Fake? Probably” then you have almost 99.9% chance that you will get replies from real people.... although some users may choose to get ChatGPT, Grammarly, Gemini, Copilot or some other LLM/AI to help format their replies better.

As for other sites out there:

  • Reddit: Most likely things will be fake... if you choose a certain topic. Try going to the plants section and browsing questions and answers about hi to take care of or grow plants. Pretty much all of those will be human and very few will be the chatbots/post-bots.

  • Facebook: You can expect some people’s accounts to have more upvotes or likes than they should especially if those people created a Facebook Bot (which you actually can) so that their posts get more attention.

  • Be careful with images... inspect them closely, do they look basic? Or non realistic? Does this image of Joe Rogan look off slightly? Could it be a AI-generated image?

  • Replies: Check how someone writes and formats a reply. Take my reply for instance: I have not used any AI assistance to write or format this reply. This reply is purely my own and not generated. You can tell by signs like mistakes, typos, incorrect formatting or more and more... CULTURAL AND GENERATIONAL SLANG! If a reply has slang in it then it may well be a human.

CAVEAT: Some users will point this out, and I totally agree with them. When you see a reply, that reply could’ve been generated by an AI 100%... before the human went over it and edited it to have mistakes or add typos (basically faking the authenticity of the message). In such cases, the waters become very dirty.

But it is an interesting topic.

No bot offers a vision of glowing, golden-orange hair.

Trust, but verify, Reagan used to say. If we can't see hair, or at least see the former site of some hair, we might wish to be cautious.

That's my opinion, and we're all entitled to an opinion.

May the hairy and the formerly hairy unite! That includes spaniels.

I don’t know which reply is better but your reply is one of the most real comments I’ve seen. Lol.

If we can't trust ANYTHING we see online, then we may as well just return to our roots.
We don't NEED the internet after all. And anyway, having fun isn't hard, when you've got a library card...

Yes, yes indeed. I will go to the library to use the public computers they have.
