Chess might be the sport that one can play for the most years in a row.
Think about Smyslov and Korchnoi and Najdorf.
Nobody could kick metaphorical sand in THEIR faces even when they had gotten well up in years.
This might mean that chess is the best sport to learn and practice, in the long run.
Of course, golf isn't bad either and you can play IT for many years, too -- and even do it in a beautiful, parklike atmosphere where you are less likely to be panhandled or have to deal with odd strangers during play.
But, come to think of it, when I play chess I worry less about dropping my beverage than when I'm swinging a golf club. Furthermore, it's hard to play golf while sitting next to the spaniel in a singlewide with a football game playing in the background.
So chess IS best.
