Is Chess a sport?

Well, people say the definition of the word "sport" is an competitive activity where you make your body fit. But, unlikely other sports, chess can make your mind fit.

As a chess fan, Brain>Muscles

Chess is sport!
It's Harder to get better then the best chessplayers then in every other sport. Because chess is about thinking and have a good mindest. So You have to sleep anove and You should make breaks. But every other sport is about hard grinding and 24/7 working.

If chess is a sport, than everything that involves brain activity you do while sitting is a sport. So chess is not a sport but a game.
Sport should involve physical skills

No doubt that chess is a sport!

I mean, who WOULDN'T want to have the ripped, toned, supple body of the average chess player?

I used to stand on the beach and listen to the pulchritudinous and bikini clad excitedly exclaim to each other: "ooooh, look at THAT fine specimen! Surely a chess player if ever I saw one!"

Indeed, it's why I took up the sport. Such adoration is otherwise hard to experience!

Chess is a mental sport; Football is a physical sport.

Chess might be the sport that one can play for the most years in a row.

Think about Smyslov and Korchnoi and Najdorf.

Nobody could kick metaphorical sand in THEIR faces even when they had gotten well up in years.

This might mean that chess is the best sport to learn and practice, in the long run.

Of course, golf isn't bad either and you can play IT for many years, too -- and even do it in a beautiful, parklike atmosphere where you are less likely to be panhandled or have to deal with odd strangers during play.

But, come to think of it, when I play chess I worry less about dropping my beverage than when I'm swinging a golf club. Furthermore, it's hard to play golf while sitting next to the spaniel in a singlewide with a football game playing in the background.

So chess IS best.
